Charles Cecil Likes was born on January 25, 1905 in Barry, Illinois. He was the first of the two children born to Zula Madge Hart Likes and Carl C. Likes.
Charles married Helen Lucille Owens. She was born on March 17, 1911 as Martha Lucille Owens but changed her name as a teenager. They had three children.

Lourilee Hart Likes and Charles Oliver Brown had five children; Steven Allen Brown, Jimmy Dean Brown, Mark Wayne Brown, Tommy Joe Brown (Dec. 1960 - Oct. 1961), and Charlene Diane Brown. Charlene married Jack Lorane Snavely. They had two children: Diane Lourilee Snavely and Jackie Lucille Snavely.
