|KATHERINE LORENA (ALEXANDER) DEWITT 1918-2009
Katherine Lorena Alexander DeWitt of Hoyt, NB passed away at Rita's Retreat on June 23, 2009 at the age of 91. Katherine is survived by one daughter Diane Mersereau (Douglas) of Riverview, NB, one son Arthur DeWitt (Tanya) of Hoyt, NB; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren, along with several cousins.
Katherine was a member of the Fredericton Junction United Baptist Church. Katherine taught school for a short time but during WWII she enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division and served in Canada and Newfoundland. Following the disbanding of the Women's Division she enrolled in Acadia University where she received her BA and Secretarial Science Diploma and her MA. She was later employed with the University as director of the Department of Secretarial Science. Katherine had great interest in genealogy and local history, she co-authored the book , "Days of Old, A History of Fredericton Junction", and wrote several historical articles for various publications. She was a member of the Sunbury West Historical Society, Patterson Historical Society, Acadia University Alumni and a past member of the Central Blissville Branch of the NBWI and the NB Genealogical Society. She is predeceased by her parents Margaret (Cummings) and Arthur Alexander, by her husband Ronald Dewitt and a sister-in-law Verna DeWitt.
Relatives and friends are invited to Sunbury Funeral Home Thursday June 25, 2009 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be from Sunbury Funeral Home on Friday June 26, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.
