Newspaper article: SUFFERS HEART ATTACK (Nov. 16, 1947) Deputy Sheriff Dudley Tice suffered a heart attack last Friday and was taken to the Cadillac hospital where examinations and X-rays were made. He returned home Monday. For several days previous he had been suffering with strep throat and this is thought to have aggravated the heart trouble. Funeral was at the Barryton Church of Christ, Barryton, Michigan His children were Wellington of Cadillac, Bernice and Pansy of Pheonix, Arizona, Dudley Jr. of Barryton, Arnold of Manistee, Glenowyn of Pinconning, Michigan

Newspaper article: DUDLEY TICE DIES FOLLOWING STROKE Dudley Tice, 60 died at his home at the west edge of Barryton early Monday morning following a stroke suffered three weeks ago. Following the stroke, pneumonia developed, causing his death. He suffered poor health for several months although during the past few weeks his condition appeared to be improving. During his last illness a trained nurse was in attendance. Brother Odd Fellows assisted in his care at night. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Barryton Church of Christ, conducted by Rev. Ora Beebe of Manton. Burial was in Flake cemetery. Mr. Tice was a good farmer and manager. For several years the family lived in Grand Rapids and Muskegon. Later they worked the Shanks farm south of Barryton. A number of years ago they purchased the former Wyckof farm where he erected large barns and conducted a prosperous horse business, in addition to raising great quantities of string beans and other crops. Dudley served a s deputy sheriff for many years, resigning on account of poor health. He was well and favorably known to everyone in this part of Michigan, as well as quite a distance away. County, Michigan, and departed this life Nov. 3, 1947 at the age of 60 years, 1 month and 20 days. He was married on May 24, 1908 to Iva Chaffee of Barryton, and to this union nine children were born: Wellington of Cadillac, Mrs. Bernice Mylerberg and Mrs. Pansy Coon of Phoenix, Ariz., Dudley Jr., of Barryton, Arnold of Manistee, Glenowyn of Pinconning, Billy Keith, who died in infancy, and Lovell and Jacqueline at home. He leaves to mourn their loss the eight children, 12 grandchildren, one brother, Arthur Tice of Ames, Iowa, and a host of relatives and friends. MEMORIES--Families of Barryton Community Dudley dealt in horses and cattle. He ran a horse barn for Park David Drug Company. Before artificial estrogen was available, the estrogen was obtained by collecting urine from pregnant mares. This was collected and shipped to the drug company.
