|Edward Isaac Jr. was born in Arlington, MA. Feb. 18,
1922. He grew up in Lexington, MA, where he
graduated from Lexington High School in 1941. He
enlisted in the U. S. Army Oct. 21, 1942, and was a
Private First Class with the First Calvary Division,
Company C, 8th Engineer Squadron. He was sent to
fight in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Southern
Philippines, and Luzon. He was awarded the Philippine
Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, the
Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic
Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with a Bronze
Service Arrowhead, and the Purple Heart for shrapnel
injuries in his legs after a mine exploded near him. He
was honorably Discharged on Nov. 7, 1945. A
memorial for the soldiers who fought in World War II
from Lexington, MA can be found at the Lexington
Common. Shortly after his return he helped his parents
to purchase a house in Lexington using his GI loan.
Edward met Shirley J. Faulkner at a local Soda Shop,
where she worked as a waitress. She is the daughter of
Arthur L. and Beatrice (Davis) Faulkner and was the
youngest of five children. Edward and Shirley married
April 25, 1947. She was 17 years old and he was 23.
They lived with relatives in Lexington and Bedford
MA, for a short time before purchasing a house in
Littleton, MA, at 6 Tajlea Rd. where they resided and
raised three children: John Stuart, Arthur Edward, and
Cheryl Louise. They lived in a terrific neighborhood
where everyone got along great including the children.
There were neighborhood camping trips, cookouts, and
parties. The family enjoyed traveling, and visiting
family in the Virginias and Tennessee. Edward was
employed by the W. R. Grace Co. in Acton, MA, and
Shirley was employed by the Littleton School
Department. In 1985 they decided to retire and move to
Crystal River, FL. They joined several organizations
and are members of the First Methodist Church.
Edward died after a brief illness Nov. 20, 2003, at the
age of 81.
