It appears he had been called at the shop of Anthony Appleby on King Street East in regard to the storage of some barrels, suddenly raised his arms as exclaiming, ‘Oh, Oh’; fell back upon the chair. Dr. Travers was sent for, and on his arrival, it was found life had fled. The Doctor was of the opinion that death had proceeded from rupture of the heart. An inquest was held before Coroner Earl. Mr. Hartt leaves a wife and son, the latter of whom was in Fredericton at the time of the sad occurrence.” (Source: 11 Nov. 1871 Carleton Sentinel) His second wife was Margaret Jane ___, known to the family as Martha Jane.
