|George C. Hartt was born 1796 and died Nov 3, 1871.
George married Jane Fowler who was born 1801 and
died Jan. 13, 1846. They were married Dec. 5, 1823, in
Fredericton, NB. They settled in York County and had
their children. They are buried together in The Old
Burying Ground in Fredericton,NB. They had eleven
“George Hartt, an elderly man and dealer in ‘mineral
water’ died on Friday afternoon. It appears he had been
called at the shop of Anthony Appleby on King Street
East in regard to the storage of some barrels, suddenly
raised his arms as exclaiming, ‘Oh, Oh’; fell back upon
the chair. Dr. Travers was sent for, and on his arrival, it
was found life had fled. The Doctor was of the opinion
that death had proceeded from rupture of the heart. An
inquest was held before Coroner Earl. Mr. Hartt leaves
a wife and son, the latter of whom was in Fredericton
at the time of the sad occurrence.” (Source: 11 Nov.

His second wife was Margaret Jane ___, known to the
family as Martha Jane. She was born in 1812 in NB.
According to the 1851 NB Census for Sunbury County,
they were living in Sheffield with their five children.
By 1856 George and family had moved from the
province, possibly to Massachusetts, as his son Odber
was an apprentice shoe maker at the age of 13 (1865)
in North Adams, Mass. Martha Jane is buried in the
Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, New York,
with her son Odber Miles Hartt.
