ERNEST PERLEY HARTT 1898-1978 A resident of the Fairy Glen District for 49 years, Ernest Perley Hartt passed away at his home in Melfort, Saskatchewan, after a brief illness on February 23rd, 1978. He was 79 years, four months. Born in Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick, on October 23, 1898, he came west at an early age and in 1925 was united in marriage to Grace C. Conacher and to this union were born 7 children Mr. Hartt resided on his farm at Fairy Glen for 49 years. He was an active member in the Community, serving on the Board of Trade, Fairy Glen Co-op Board, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, Fairy Glen School Board, etc. Retiring from the farm in 1974, he removed to Melfort where he served as Vice-President with the Senior Citizens Club. He was known to everyone as E.P. Hartt and will be sadly missed by family and acquaintances, Besides his wife Grace, he is survived by seven children: John E., Port Alberni, B.C.; Harry L., Regina, Saskatchewan; Allen S., Port Alberni, B.C.; Jean E. Barnard, North Bay, Ontario; Cecil R., Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan: Ralph K., Port Alberni, B.C.; Aleck V., Campbell River, B.C. Also 3 brothers: Harold, Frank and David of Fredericton Junction, N.B. Sisters Ruth Ontario; Clara Nason, Fredericton Junction, N.B.; Edith Stevenson, Vancouver B.C. Also 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 2 sisters: Bessie Jamieson of Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1964 and Alice Segee, London, Ontario, in 1961 The funeral service was held at 2 pm on February 27th, 1978, from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melfort with Pastor E.H. Neilson officiating. Soloist Claude Ewen sang “Home Sweet Home” while the congregation joined in with “What a Friend we have in Jesus” and “Rock of Ages” . Organist was Mrs Herbert Holmlund. Pallbearers were: Lloyd Reeder, Jim Baillie, Albert Person, Halvor Holmedal, Lorne Johnson and Omar Solstien. Ushers were Orvil Skifton and Einor Wehrkamp Rest in peace. Contributed by Allen Hartt
