Walter Melvin Nason, 72, of Fredericton passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday April 20th, 2007. Born on August 4, 1934 in Fredericton Junction, Walter was the son of the later Victor and Clara (Hartt) Nason. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Audrey (Peterson), son Roger (Wendy) of Moncton, Paul (June) of Saint John and grandchildren Bradley, Gregory, Matthew, Ryan and Jillian. Walter was predeceased by his sister Miriam, and is survived by brothers Vernon (Irma), Ross (Ida), Burt (Jackie), and sisters Glenna Bell and Carol King. Walter graduated From UNB Fredericton with a degree in Survey Engineering in 1963, and worked for NB Power until his retirement in 1993. In 2000, Walter took a position as the Planned Giving Officer for the Chalmers Foundation where he worked until 2005. Walter was very involved in his community and was a member of many organizations including the Capital Winter Club, YMCA, Golden Club, Gage Golf Club, and Prostate Cancer Support Group. Walter was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of NB and the past president of the Association of New Brunswick Land Surveyors. Walter was very active in the sport of curling on many levels. As a player his achievements included playing in the 1972 Brier, two Senior Legion Nationals, and winning the 1994 Canadian Senior Curling Championships with a team that was inducted to the Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame. Walter was a CCA certified Curling Coach, Instructor and builder of the sport. He volunteered for, and chaired many events, and was the past president of the New Brunswick Curling Association. Visitation will be at McAdam’s Select Community Funeral Home, Fredericton on Tuesday April 24th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at Wilmot United Church on Wednesday, April 25th, at 1:00 pm. Rev.Gilbert Todd officiating.
