Thérèse Laforest was the 4th child of Lucien Laforest and Louise Joly. She was born on November 7, 1930, in Uno Park, Temiskaming, ON. Theresa left home at age 16 to find a job. Her mother, Louise said she could go as long as she sent half her wages home to help support the family. Theresa met Roderick (Rod) Wood in Marathon, ON. His pick-up line was: "Would you like a cigarette?" Although Theresa did not smoke, she thought Rod was cute, so accepted. Theresa married Rod on November 11, 1949, at the age of 19. Rod was 20. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Windsor, ON. Theresa and Rod had 3 children: Linda Rebecca Wood, Nelson Roderick Wood and Gregory Allen Wood .Theresa was a stay-at-home mom. Besides looking after her husband and children, Theresa enjoyed interior decorating and had a good eye for colour. She was the one who painted the house and repaired small appliances such as a toaster. Theresa was very embarrassed by her lack of formal education and eventually went back to night school and obtained her high school diploma. She also learned to swim as an adult, taking swimming lessons with her daughter. After Rod retired, Theresa and Rod traveled south by RV for 18 winters. They moved from Windsor to London, ON. On their 50th wedding anniversary, they purchased a new home in London. After Rod passed away on February 6, 2006, Theresa went to live with her daughter, Linda, in Ottawa, ON. Suffering from Alzheimer's disease, she was still able to interact with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eventually, she moved into a long-term care facility where she passed away on July 31, 2011, at the age of 80. Both Theresa and Rod are interred in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, ON.
