Roy was the seventh child of William Charles and Letitia (Wilson) Hartt, born March 18, 1894 at Solon Springs, Wisconsin. He came to Tacoma, WA in 1898 and grew up there. In 1915 while working in Seattle, he became acquainted with Jennie Lind Roach, whom he had met earlier at a church conference. They were married April 7, 1918 at the Roach residence in Seattle. From their union, seven children were born, 18 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
While raising the family Jennie and Roy were active in Christian Ministries, mainly the fellowship of the Plymouth Brethren Assemblies. Four of their seven children served on the mission field. Roy and Jennie spent 40 years working at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. They loved going fishing together in their senior years. Roy died in his 99th year, 1993, in the Extended Care Centre in Three Hills with his family around him.
