Glendon Winlow Smith
1914 - 2003

Smith, Glenwood Winslow Smith formerly of Central Blissville and Harvey Station, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully at Crown Ridge Long-Term Care in Trenton, Ontario on April 24, 2013. Glenn was born in Central Blissville on December 15, 1914 to the late Winslow Alexander Smith and Bessie Jane (Harris) Smith. He was a loving husband to Mary Bernadine (Nolan) of Trenton, Ontario for 58 years, and the former Ruth Hartt of Fredericton Junction. Glenn was a carpenter and contractor by trade, first in Fredericton and the Junction, then in the service, finally retiring to Harvey in 1981 from the St. Lawrence Seaway in Cornwall, Ontario. Besides his wife Mary, Glenn leaves his daughter Sandra Marie Smith, son-in-law Graham John Rempe, and three grandsons, Alexander Glenn, Nolan John, and Christian Nicholas from Toronto, Ontario. He is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Smith) Hoyt, her daughter Nancy Ritchie of Ottawa, Ontario and her sons Todd and Gavin and their families, and nieces Linda (Rob) Robertson and daughters from Trenton, Ontario, and Karen (Gord) Hurd and family from Oakville, Ontario. Glenn was predeceased by his sister Thelma Patricia (Smith) Lawrence, her husband Jack and son Peter Lawrence from Kelowna, BC, and his brother Norman Smith from Central Blissville. When you live a long life, and see many friends and family pass, you leave mostly memories. Glenn was a crackerjack pitcher in his younger years, an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed up to the past year his vegetable garden, card games with friends, and harmonica playing with fellow musicians. He was a WWII Veteran and a long-time member of the Legion, both in Fredericton Junction and Trenton. He resided from Newfoundland to Alberta throughout his long life, but called New Brunswick and Ontario his home. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Arrangements in Ontario have been entrusted to the Weaver Family Funeral Home - West Chapel, 170 Dundas St. West, Trenton and a memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday April 28, 2013, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Legion Tribute will be at 7pm Sunday. Funeral Service will be held at the Sunbury Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating, Central Blissville, NB (506-368-2413), in the house where Glenwood grew up on Monday April 29, 2013 at 11am. Interment will be in the Blissville Cemetery.
