Gerald Harris born, Thursday, November 17, 1927, at the Gloucester Hospital in Bathurst, Gloucester County, N.B. Canada. Attending Physician: Dr. Coffyn. Parents: Henry Lionel Harris and Mary Irene Moses. After graduating in 1946 from the Bathurst High School, Gerald taught school for 6 months at the Bass River School District # 17 on a Temporary License. Gerald joined Consolidated Bathurst, Local Pulp and Paper Mill, Later renamed Stone- Consolidated and still later renamed Smurfit-stone Containers Board, Bathurst Division.. On April 7, 1947, working up through the different departments to the Stores Dept. as Materials Superintendent for a period of 32 years. Laid off during Employee cut backs on April 15, 1978. After lay off he joined Lounsbury Co. Ltd. as a car salesman but only worked for one month when he was hired by Fraser Co. Ltd. Edmundston, N.B. and remained as their buyer for 11 months. Returned to Bathurst and was employed by Noranda at Heath Steel Mines for nine months as Stores Manager. During the local mill expansion he was employed by a consulting firm from Vancouver, B.C.. Nystrom, Lee and Kkobyaushki for 14 months. He coordinated the Bathurst Truckers Association' Members Work Schedule approximately 2 years. Owned and operated a Grocery Store and Canteen from 1956 to 1960. Bought a home in 1960 and we moved into it July 1, 1960. Gerald is a 32 Degree Mason, a Shriner, a Past Senior Counselor of the United Commercial Travellers of America, Bathurst Branch. He was Past Elder of First United Church, Bathurst. Gerald served on various Committees and held different offices during his lifetime. Trustee of Bass River School, District 17, Bathurst.Co-Superintendent of Bass River Sunday School.,President of Bathurst Liberal Association. President of the New Brunswick Antique Auto Club (2 yrs.), President of the Canadian Association for Community Living Bathurst Branch,. President of Bathurst Community Residence for Physical and Mentally Challenged Adults. Chairman of Planning Advisory Board, Bathurst, N. B.Chaplain Bathurst Shrine Club (6 years Master of Ceremony of Masonic Lodge St. John A&FM #27, Bathurst, N.B.,Member of the Board of the Chaleur Regional Hospital,Member of Board of Directors of First United Church, Bathurst. Member of the Graveyard Committee.,Co-Founder of Bass River Adult Workshop for Intellectually Disadvantaged Adults.,President of North Shore Shrine Club, Bathurst for 2-two year terms.Transportation Chairman for North Shore Shrine Club(sending children to Montreal Shrine Hospital..Gerald was an Antique Craft and Antique Car collector. Gerald's hobbies are watching ice hockey, wrestling and auto racing.Gerald did woodworking and travelling with his family. Gerald was a good singer and played the Guitar. Gerald has a certificate in Group Communications and a member of the Purchasing Association of Canada and a Certificate in Cost Accounting. Gerald was a member of the Eastern Star, Bathurst Chapter #22; Member of Herman J. Good. V. C. Bathurst Branch and a Member of the New Brunswick Atlantic Scottish Society. Gerald owned a Cottage which burned in 1992; after which we owned over the years 4 RVís.. Gerald married Geraldine Wood Dec. 22, 1947 at the Wood home by Rev Philpotts. Gerald has worked diligently for many years both locally and provincially to further the live of persons who had intellectually disabilities. On Sept. 7, 2002, Gerald received the Hiram Award for dedication to Masonry; for one who has gone beyond the Cable Tow. In March 24, 1991 Gerald was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognizing his devotion to his endeavors and Fraternal fellowship through those years from the UCT. Gerald died January 2, 2005 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital Bathurst after much suffering and many complications. Gerald was a kind person and many persons paid their respect. The Mayor and City Councilors included, as he was a City Councilor for 2 years.
