![]() Thomas Norton Hart (1829-1927) was born in North Reading, Massachusetts. He married Elizabeth Snow. They had one daughter, Abbie Snow who married Carl Wmst of Germany. Thomas Norton in 1860 founded the hat store called Hart, Taylor and Co., which was one of the largest cap and hat manufacturers in New England. In 1880, he became president of the Mount Vernon National Bank. 1879-81, Hart was chosen to the common council in Boston, to the board of Alderman in 1882-1886. and as Mayor of Boston 1889-90 and 1900-1901 receiving the largest vote accorded any Republican Mayor up to that time. He also was a postmaster of Boston for a time. "He was well-liked by all parties during his term; was courteous, genial and efficient in all the relations of life, with clear and quick perceptions, and is capable of any office in the United States."
