John Baldwin Hart was a son of Sylvester and Relief Hart born on April 13, 1832 in Vermont, USA. He married twice first to Sarah Alemeda Lyon on January 25, 1854 in Ohio, USA. John married for the second time on April 21, 1875 to Julia Adora Preston. Soon after his marriage the family moved to Sandusky, Ohio where John was a Marine Engineer and the owner of a Tug called the Mertle. Before 1890 his family moved to Toledo, Ohio where he owned and operated the Eage Machine and Iron Works at 930 Water Street near the Maumee River. He manufactured compound and triple expansion engines for Marine application. John died at his home at Toledo after a long and painful illness on December 12. 1899. He was well known among vessel man along the lake. John and Sarah Hart had three children: Carlton Victor Hart, 1855-1940; Alice Relief, born 1857 and died before 1860; and Cora C. Hart born April 11, 1859. John and Julia's children are: Helen Augusta b. 1876-1941, Sylvester 1879-1879 (Stillborn). Grace Relief. 1880-1957, Roy 1883-1944.
