Donald, Gilbert, Alfred, Thomas E., Thomas, Thomas A., Jonathan, Samuel, Isaac

Donald was born October 28, 1913 to Gilbert and Maude Hartt. Donald married Jean Stroud, August 30, 1941. They resided in St. John and Westfield, New Brunswick. Donald was a past Commanding Officer of the "Bying Boys." In 1944, he was placed on loan to the British army where he served as a Captain with the Manchester Regiment. After serving in Normandy, Belgium, and Holland, he was transferred to the lst Airborne Division and received his majority. For his service, Donald was awarded the 1938-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Clasp Victory Medal, and the Coronation Medal. After the war, Don and his brother Lloyd joined their father in running the Hartt Lumber Company. The saw mill burned down in 1956; it was not rebuilt. Instead, the business was sold and the brothers retired. Donald's special interest was in his yacht, "Atlanta". He had many adventures with it out on the ocean. He loved taking his friends and family with him. They had four children: Mary Jane, Thomas, Margot, Elizabeth. Donald passed away in 1978.
