Wife of Alfred Hartt

Jennie Mersereau was born December 31, 1860 in Blissville, NB. She was a descendent of a Loyalist family and the great-grand-daughter of Judge Lawrence Mersereau, the first judge to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court of New Brunswick after it became a separate province. As a young girl Jennie contributed to early public school education of the province in the Sunbury County district, where she taught school for 4 yrs under trying problems of inadequate facilities. Jennie married Alfred Hartt May 20. 1885 and had two children. Jessie 1888-1971 & Gilbert 1890-1950. They operated a grocery store in St. John, NB . Alfred & Jennie were members of the Charlotte Street Baptist Church. She was a life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Jennie died October 10, 1942
