Phebe was born January 27, 1809, a daughter of Thomas & Phebe Hartt of Hartt's Mills, (later called Fredericton Junction) in New Brunswick. She married Daniel Edward Smith on December 18, 1835. (Daniel Smith was born on Nov. 8, 1802, and died Oct 24, 1861) His parents were Clapman (1761-1843) and Susanah (Baily) (1775-1856) Smith. Phebe was a woman of a strong mind and enjoyed serving the Lord. Often impressively solemn in her looks, yet sparkling with cheerfulness, and a most exhilarating and comforting mother. She was an example of faithfulness and a zealous working member of the Free Christian Baptist Church for 60 years. As a friend she was self sacrificing and sincere. By her frequent motherly visits to the sick throughout the neighborhood, she made a host of friends and did much good. She passed away 22 years after her husband . Phebe died December 24, 1883 and both are buried in the Blissville United Baptist Cemetery in Sunbury Co. New Brunswick.
