Joseph Hart and Elizabeth

Joseph Hart was born in Lynnfield, Massachusetts on October 28, 1774. He was the sixth son of John Hart Jr. and Lydia Curtis Hart.
On March 25, 1799, Joseph married Elizabeth Tapley at Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Elizabeth was born on May 19, 1778, in Danvers, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Joseph Tapley and Mary Smith Tapley.
Mr. Hart resided at Lynnfield, until about 1808. Then, when there was a quarrel about the old homestead farm, he and his family moved to Salem, Massachusetts.
On December 3, 1830, Joseph Hart drowned while cutting ice in a Salem pond when he accidentally fell under the ice. Elizabeth died on July 10, 1853 at 75 years of age. |

Mehitable Hart's husband, Richard Gale, died in 1825. He was a sailor and was buried at Bombay. Later, she married John Fisk Burnham of Essex, Massachusetts on December 1, 1836. John Fisk Burnham was born on March 13, 1796 and he died on October 28, 1878. Children of Mehitable (Hart) and John Fisk "Jim" Burnham: (1) Francis Hart b. Mar. 18, 1838; m. Aug. 9, 1859, Ellen M. Dane, b. Feb. 4, 1841 and d. Nov. 4, 1884. They had one child Mary Frances, b. May 5, 1861; m. July 9, 1888, Fred T. Ross. They had a child Francis Gray, b. April 30, 1892. (2) Joseph Howard, b. Dec. 17, 1844; m. Feb. 1, 1865, Lucy S. Whipple; she died Nov. 20,1869 and he married second Feb. 8, 1871, Sarah T. Trott, she d. Mar. 12, 1886, and he married third, Oct. 31, 1886, Mary Alvira Trowbridge. Mr. Burnham lived in Ipswich, Mass. Children born in Ipswich of Joseph Howard and Sarah Trott: 1. Sarah Josephine b. Oct. 4, 1871; d. Jan. 9, 1873; 2. Joseph Howard b. Dec. 16, 1873; 3. Ralph Warren b. Sept. 12, 1876; 4. Franklin Trott b. Oct. 10, 1878; 5. Alice Gertrude b. Aug. 17, 1881
John Hart resided in the part of Danvers, which was changed to Peabody, Mass. About 1848, he moved to Brighton, Maine, and in 1852, he went to Marysville, California, where he lived until he died in Dec. 9, 1863. Sally, his widow returned to Lynn, Mass. where she died May 16, 1878, age 70 years, 7 months. She was a daughter of Samuel and Lydia Stanley. John Hart and Sally Thurston had eight children: (1) Susan Augusta Hart, b. June 15, 1831; m. in 1852 Reuben Ball, and resided at Lynn. She d. Jul. 4, 1854. No children. (2) Laura Currier Hart , b. May 15, 1833; m. in 1859, Nelson Brown of Peabody, Mass., where they reside. Mr Brown d. Feb. 9, 1863. No children. (3) Pickering Stanley Hart, b. June 18, 1835 (4) John Austin Hart, b. July, 13, 1837 (5) Samuel Stanley Hart, b. Oct. 27, 1839; m. July 13, 187, Lydia E. Bushby, age 33 years, daughter of Joseph Bushby. Mr. Hart resided at Salem, and d. in Florida, Feb. 28, 1894. No children. (6) George Osborn Hart, b. Oct. 7, 1841; m. by Rev. H.K. Pence at Cambridge, Mass., June 3, 1876, Ann Bell Morris. They reside at Worcester, Mass. No children. (7) Cornelia Hart, b. Aug. 10, 1845; d. in Bridgton, Maine, Feb. 23, 1850. And, (8) Miles Stanley Hart, b. Sept. 8, 1848, in Brighton, Maine.
Jesse Tapley Hart lived in Salem Village (so called in olden times, but was really Danvers, now Peabody, Mass.), until 1829, when he went to Marblehead, Mass. About 1835, he returned to South Danvers, now Peabody, where he lived the rest of his life, dying of lung fever on May 10, 1847. He was a farmer. His wife died on May 2, 1881. They had six children: (1) Jesse Augustus Hart, b. May 8, 1827, in Salem Village; d. Aug. 3, 1841 (2) Mary Augusta Hart, b. 1828, in Salem Village (3) Sarah Pratt Hart, b. July 28, 1830, in Marblehead, Mass. (4) Charles Henry, b. Mar. 2, 1832, in Marblehead; d. May 10, 1832 (5) Samuel Pratt, b. Aug. 30, 1833, in Marblehead; and (6) Sophia Ann, b. June 17, 1836, in Marblehead.
William Henry Hart resided at Peabody and died sometime before 1900. Jane, his wife, was still living, in 1900, in Peabody, at age 84 years. They had four children: (1) William Herman Hart, b. June 28, 1844, d. Dec. 6, 1880, of consumption; unmarried; (2) Joseph Fairfield Hart, b. Jan. 17, 1846, lived in Peabody; unmarried; (3) Jane Augusta Hart, b. May 13, 1848, lived in Peabody, unmarried; and (4) Ellen, b. Jan. 14, 1850, d. Jan. 28, 1850.
